Jan Niklas Stollberg

My Name is Jan Niklas Stollberg and I’m 19 years old. I love to create and share videos. I study digital filmmaking and video production at university for almost a year now, trying to gather as much experience as possible in order to develop further.

I have a very general interest in filmmaking and in all the corresponding facets like Editing, Compositing or 3d. But no matter what I do, I always try to dedicate as much time and effort as possible in every single frame.
Besides my interest in all the rather technical aspects of filmmaking, I am especially focused on capturing a certain feeling and lifestyle.

As a cinematographer I love extreme sports. They’re usually about creativity, individuality and style. A perfect mixture between sport, epic locations and an amazing spirit.

Other than filmmaking, I love to engage in sports like tennis, soccer, skateboarding and snowboarding. And I also like to eat.

Chronicles of Carnia

published on

Entering Carnia is a bit like going through C.S. Lewis’s famous wardrobe, a completely different world awaits – once also governed by a lion, the mighty lion of the Venetian Republic. It is an amazing region, both nestling among and ranging over the mountains near the Austrian border – not just a pretty face, however – it proved pivotal to the Italian Resistance during World War II.
Steeped in history, the area dates back to the Stone Age, when Etruscan traders forged their way across its five valleys towards Northern Europe and takes its name from the Celtic tribes who inhabited it during the Iron Age. The archaeological museum in Zuglio is a rich source of fascinating information. The little medieval churches dotted about the landscape were not just places of worship, but strategically-placed look-out points, and contain myriad works of art.
Carnia is also a foodie paradise, however – local delicacies abound - from the famous Prosciutto di Sauris flavoured with juniper and spices, to salami with or without garlic, preserves, honey, cheeses, Grappa, beer and fantastic local game, cooked in the traditional manner over an open fire. The locals are justifiably proud of their region, with its religious and secular festivals, its brick and wood houses, noble Venetian palaces, the nerve-wracking pistes of the Zoncolan, one of the highest mountains in Friuli VG, a mighty challenge to skiers and Giro d’Italia cyclists alike, the gentle slopes, snug valleys and entrancing views. It’s one of those magic places that remain with you, long after you’ve left.

Spritz time… well, any time.

If you thought Buck’s Fizz was the coolest of all fizzy orange tipples, think again. Swing down any street, slide down any slope, canter up any close in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region and you’ll be greeted by the sight of locals staunchly brandishing, nursing, emptying, but never concealing their trademark glass of Spritz. It’s the hallmark of savoir faire, the badge of honour, the mark of distinction of old and young alike.
The word Spritz has German origins, apparently meaning ‘watered down’. Don’t speak any German so I’ll take their word for it. The perfect aperitif, the perfect sundowner, no self-respecting bar is without its favourite variation – and all historic bars claim that theirs is the best!

  • Definitely try this at home:
one third dry white wine like Friulano (also known as Tocai) non purists use Prosecco o sparkling dry wine
  • one third Aperol (there is also a Campari variation on the theme)
  • top up with a third of soda water
  • a slice of orange …. and voilà.

Soon you’ll be concocting your own – a twist of this, a green olive – anything goes… within reason.  Bottoms up!
