Surprisingly, the first tourism board to believe in the Digital Diary and provide the opportunity to reveal Italy from a distinctly un-institutional viewpoint was the Agenzia per la Promozione Turistica della Basilicata.

It’s really nice to see how such a small region that most people have never heard of  (I thought Matera was in Portugal before moving here!), with a fraction of the budget of other Italian regions, had the guts to sponsor something so different and unconventional compared to the rest of the stuff being done in the country right now.
They’ve given us the chance to tell our off-beat stories.
A special thanks to Marcella, Giuseppe, Gianpiero and all the guys at the Potenza office for your time, resources and very un-Italian approach to finding solutions to make the project happen!

What the artist saw in Basilicata…

It was incredible to be amongst seven filmmakers on the Can’t Forget Italy project, challenging eachother’s skills while helping one another to realize our production goals. It’s a creative person’s dream come true to have this opportunity amongst the inspiration and cultures of Basilicata, that seems to welcome you with open arms wherever you go.

The Basilicata region welcomed us with open arms and a glass of wine. I was overwhelmed by the beautiful landscape, the historical heritage and the culture of hospitality. The Digital Diary project was an unforgettable experience and an ingenious way of using new media to expose the world to this phenomenal place and its many riches.

It was such an inspiration to work with my peers on this project. We had beautiful subject matter to work with, and we all collaborated and learned a lot from each other.

It’s awe-inspiring being dropped in an unknown territory together with a colorful bunch of travel enthusiasts. Diving deep into real stories with all senses wide open…
Connect, see, smell, feel, taste, an abundance of stimuli and become one with the local spirit. And then… the art of translating it all into mindblowing visual stories.

There’s something special about the texture of Basilicata; it is present in the hidden places, in the landscapes, in the faces of the people and in the quiet contemplative moments. Digital Diary brought us there, and we’ve come back with our own stories… we hope you’ll be inspired by what we’ve made of them.

I was thrust into a fantasy land filled with ancient ruins, untouched earth, stunning scenery that the eyes cannot believe. The wonderful balance of posh and humble settings, and the hospitality by the strangers and warm society of the entire region made me like I belonged. Like I was at home. The time of my life.

Travel is the best way to generate ideas and visions.
7 creatives on the road can do 7 times as much: multiply ideas, learn from each other and share our extraordinary experiences with the rest of the world.
